Another Play Mate's Birthday Celebration!

Today, we celebrated another of Renee's playgroup friends'(Tessa) birthday during the PG session. Here's the goodie bag(again lolz): According to the mom, Tessa's birthday cake was ordered online and it's got Tessa's favourite character print-Dora, from the show Dora the explorer. Actually, Renee also likes this character and seeing the cake, she told me she wants it for her next birthday too hahaha. I remembered when we celebrated her birthday this year, she said she wanted the Big Bird cake again so I asked her : Oh, you want Dora cake, then what happened to the Big Bird cake? And she replied : Oh, no no, I want Dora cake

Why Playgroup?

Many people had commented seeing the positive 'results/difference' in Renee after we've signed her up with the playgroup sessions(Gifted Tots) at Growing Up Gifted(GUG) and that made me glad that I've made the sacrifices. Sacrifice? - hey, not near hor, take an hr to get there, by LRT, then MRT and the waiting/long walks? Plus, to ensure her nutrients intake(n mainly becos she doesn't appreciate 'outside' food) I've to cook and bring her food out! lolz but it's ok, cos if I'm the mother and don't do it, who would?

Ok, some asked, why signed her up at such early age? Some may say it's KS but somehow, if you asked around, u will find that most of today's mothers will agree that, early learning is now inevitable, especially in this modern generation. However, on this note, it is in my opinion that we should not put un-necessary stress on our kid(s)and anything before the age of 2 is abit too young I feel. It's important for them to have fun at this age and too much of proper 'learning' too early might have adverse effect later.
That is why, though it is somehow considered late to some, we've only signed her up when she's 28 mths old - many of her classmates were from the Gifted Babes class and some had even started as early as from less than 1 yr old but I've learnt from their parents that not all are there just becos the parents are being KS - I shall not elaborate their reasons here.

Now, the main reason we let her attend playgroup sessions is that at this learning/brain still developing age, they have this insatiable energy and it's hard to keep up at times, so, to make her happy, I've to keep bringing her out and also to help her 'get in touch with the world' :) Ok ok, I'm also one who cant stay at home for long - boring rite and since I've given up most of my work to care for her, bringing her out has become a form of 'excercise' for both of us :D
However, how often can I bring her out? It'll soon be boring again cos there're just these few places that I can bring her to. One day, I was reading a friend's blog and I saw how much her girl has achieved from the childcare centre and I thought, why don't I sign her up for some 'learn through play' kinda playgroup so that she can have her high level of energy WELL spent and without the pressure of actual learning. So, I went on a long search for a suitable centre and 1 Sat, after viewing some places, realised that I was on the wrong track - those around housing area are mostly childcare centres and nearby ones don't appeal to me cos of their teacher/child ratio and the 'lack of quality'.
No no, It's not about enrolling our child into a so-called posh school, as there're many others which are more costly but being fussy in this area, I hope to enrol her with a school with a better quality - but better qualified teachers are paid higher, so we'll have to be prepared to pay higher fees.
(In fact, our part-time cleaner who works in childcare centres, she saw Renee's artworks and commented that they're more 'creative' as compared to those done at where she's worked in, so here's one difference already)

Another round of search persued and finally, I've shortlisted Gymboree(more on fun) and GUG(art&craft, fun activities, songs...). Though her daddy was quite reluctant at first but hearing that it's a parent-accompanied programme(and since I'm willing to bring her all the way there) and it'll be fun for her, he decided on GUG.

I guess going to the playgroup sessions does really help, cos being there with her, I can see that she really enjoys doing the artworks & singing and most of these artworks are something which most of us wont allow at home, for fear of the mess/dirt they'd create hahaha. Furthermore, we won't know where to start and what to 'create'... Best of all, though she's quite an independant girl, she's very sticky to me, so these sessions also allowed me to train her to be less sticky, which will be very very 'useful' when it's time for her to attend nursery or when we have our 2nd child(that's IF we have lah, just for example only cos many mommies who are pregnant now told me that they don't want their precious 1st born to feel like they're being dumped at the schools on the arrival of the 2nd baby...- Hey look, I also benefit in learning something from accompanying her to the sessions lolz)

And couple of months ago, just as we've both kinda settled-in comfortably with this school, her daddy, whom has probably seen the improvement in her, felt that perhaps it's time for her to go to a place where there's more learning since by the time she turns 3 next year, we will still have to 'upgrade' her to the non-parent accompanied prog (actually, she's supposed to be upgraded when she turned 2 1/2yo as per GUG's prog guide but I delayed as she's only just started then. And when we resumed after the 1 mth break, I was told that there's no vacancy and she'll hv to join next year, which was also fine with me 'cos I'd prefer her to continue with this parent accompanied programme till she's at least 3). And though I'm quite hesitant(on the 'more learning part'), her daddy's the one paying :D So now, headache again cos WHERE?! arrrggghhh...

A little massage?

Few days ago, I poured a little powder on Renee's hand and she put it on my shoulders and started rubbing. Her touch was sooooo nice, I almost fell asleep hahaha. She even massaged me with her fingers though she wont do it for very long unless u allow powder on your shoulders hahaha, but nevertheless, she had given me that mild massage when I requested :)
Told her dad about it that night and asked him to try and he got hooked hahahahaha.

In fact, she's now doing me that little favour as I'm typing away here heeheehee

PaPa reliving his childhood?

Went to Marina Sq yesterday as I had wanted to check out the sizings of the crocs shoes. And whilst at a store looking for a car booster seat, I chanced upon some puzzles which I had to get for her :) And her dad, saw these automated racing cars/helicopter and was sooooo interested that he eventually got one(for himself or for his girl? lolz)
The Automated Helicopter(S$39.90, cheap or ex?)
Well, the answer's obvious esp when we got home hahaha - cos Renee lost interest after watching him played with it and made so much noise wanting to fix up the puzzles. I told her to wait till I've had my shower so I can play along with her but I guess her dad must have given in to her whilst I was still hving my shower cos when I'm out, she's already fixed up some of the puzzles. She has, by choice, selected the 'sea creatures' set but requested for the 'apple'(Fruits) set after playing with the first set, but we told her : "no, tomorrow". So, she continued for a while and packed it up & go to bed(and I kept the 'apple' set' when she's gone to her bed hehehe)
This morning, we woke up slightly earlier as I had to go to the doc's and Renee, immediately after her milk, she went to wake her dad up and rushed out to the hall to look for her 'apple' puzzle set hahaha:

Renee : PaPa, see, papa clock, mommy clock(cos she heard her dad's alarm clock beep just as she's walking to him)
PaPa : Yes...
Renee : Where's my clock? Oh, papa havent buy my clock...

Then when she cldn't find her 'apple' puzzle in the hall :-
Renee : PaPa, where's my apple puzzle?
PaPa : Hmmm, I don't know ar, where?
Renee : (Coming to me in the room), Mommy, I don't want orh orh(sleep) anymore, becos I orh orh ar, cannot find apple already
hahahahaha

Birthday Bash at Gymboree!

Really glad to have brought Renee to her playgroup friend's birthday party today and seeing that she's really enjoyed herself, I'm sure her daddy was also pleased that he had sacrificed his 'business time' to accompany her there...

Upon arrival, the kids' temperature were taken and a name tag will then be pasted on their apparels. Once we were in the gym room, Renee was given a party crown by the birthday boy's daddy. She looked really cute wearing it and it was a great pity that I couldn't catch her with it on time with our camera :(
(She had already pushed the crown off to her 'back' by the time I returned from the toilet, cos the holding band is pretty tight)

At the end of party activities(some of which she had enjoyed very much) and cake cutting, we proceeded to another room for a small feast! And Renee, being still choosy about her food, had to go hungry hahaha - she took a small nicely packed toblerone chocolate though - don't think she's eaten it but when I see her back at the makan room, I don't see the chocolate on her hand anymore - but as per her request, I managed to take another piece(can be found in the pic below too) for her to bring home hahaha - Oh Oh, she was even allowed to bring the duckie balloon home!(cos she asked the boy, his father n his grandfather very nicely hahaha)

After makan, it was time to go home and despite having given most of the kids(at GUG) a goodie bag during the earlier celebration at GUG, the kids were again, given another goodie bag this time!(and we haven't even finished all the contents of the first one!) Here's some pics of the goodies :
The goodie bagWhat's inside the goodie bag? These! (oops her daddy just took a pack of mini oreos from it lolz):A close-up look at the duckie balloon - 1 'leg' only? haha it's already like that when nene brought it home

Be patient... :)

Many has requested for her pics to be up, sorry to disappoint but that'll defeat the purpose of creating a 'safe' blog in the first place rite? :D
So, for the benefit of those, I am trying to upload some of her voice/song singing recordings and I've finally downloaded my mobile phone's pc suite prog and transferred the files over but I don't know why the sounds/videos just can't be 'opened'! Am still trying to figure out why, so, please, give me some time(or better still, tell me what's wrong or how to go about it lolz)

Her 'creations'

Some of you have been asking me what does Renee do when she's at home. Ok, when I'm not free to play with her, besides her 'imaginary' plays, here's what she'll normally do when playing on her own at home - she'll 'create' toys/stuffs to play:

Her very own self created bubbles making set! hahaha
The 'hook' was taken off from her kitchen set, the green 'cup' taken off from her music/shape cooking pot and the 'O' from her alphabet board(which she doesnt really play with)

This is her 'missymouse(M from zoophonics) in a cage) lolz

She always love to look at the animals in the pet shop @ centrepoint-near the carpark. It's been quite a while since we last went there and couple of weeks ago, we went to Robinsons and before we even reached the auto 'exit' door, she quickly told us she wanna see 'rabbit', oh she remembered! hahaha, kids can really remember things - probably becos they dun hv as much 'things' in their mind yet. And few days ago, she searched into her toy box(more willing to do so now as it's no longer as fully packed since I took out alot out for donation recently) and she found this mouse, so there, here comes this 'creation' hahaha. Oh, I've asked her what are the two 'stacks'(books on top of shape cups and she told me they're 'music' - referring to music player. How do they come into this caged animal picture, I honestly have no clue man, I guess only this mischievous girl knows what her creation is abt :)

Bubbles! and Hurt finger?

Bubbles
Bought this set for her some time back, but when I first brought her to the pavilion downstairs to play with it, she made a mess(her hands full of the soapy water) cos she couldn't 'blow' at the stick well enough to create the bubbles... so I've chucked it in the store.
(Funny, noticed from the playgroup, most kids cant seem to 'blow' very well([when blowing candles during their birthday celebrations]) hahaha :Recently, I saw another one that comes with a 'fan' and decided to buy it for her :) and yesterday, 2 of my sisters came over as our usual gathering at my mom's cancelled, and Renee had a great time playing with the new set with them :After playing with the bubbles making set, we got home and she took a box of tic tac sweets from Elsie's bag. She started to feed me and Elsie the sweet, and seeing that she tried to put her index finger into the small opening of the box, Elsie quickly warned her against it but stubbornly refusingly to listen, she again, put her index finger into the box and this time, it really got stucked! She panicked and wanted to pull it out herself, we tried to stop her from pulling her finger out but it was too late and the skin around the finger torn...

Here's how her finger looked with the plaster :

Though she was very brave and didn't cry when her finger was hurt but she'll cry each time I have to change the plaster, buay tahan!

A sensible girl :) Quick reaction?

Sensibility
After school on thursday, after we've bought her new set of panties, she, as usual went to one of those shops that sell educational toys to 'play'. I was surprised to find her fixing (correctly) a puzzles - it's one of a girl in 4 sections. Why was I surprised? - cos she's never played with such puzzles before and the pieces were clustered amongst other toys/puzzles and so when she got it correct at her first attempt with them, I certainly would be! She seemed to like the puzzle very much and as I wanted to feed her dinner first whilst waiting for her daddy to fetch us, I asked if she wanted me to get it for her to play at home(since it's not too ex) but her reply surprised me further, though it's a pleasant one...
Mommy : Do you like this puzzle?
Renee : Yeah...
Mommy : Mommy buy for you to play at home ok?
Renee : No. No need. Just play here.
Ohh.....

Quick reaction?
On friday, on our way back, she looked out of the car window and told us that she saw the moon. But as the car moved on, she lost sight of it and asked us where was it. So I teased her :
Mommy : "oh, only good girls and good boys can see the moon ar"
and Immediately she replied : "I can see ar"
hahahahaha

Undergarments with the right fit?

Never knew it can be sooooo hard to find panties that fits well! Renee doesn't seem to like those of normal panty cut and thus, I've resorted to ordering 10pcs(in a set, no choice) from a japan online shopping web.

However, the thigh opening of these panties is now abit tight for her and after altering n re-altering few times(juz to catch the correct opening size) on so many pairs of her panties till my fingers hurt from all the sewings, I've still yet to get the perfit fit!

Decided to just order bigger size from the same web again but there's no more stock for the the set with the nicer designs but how? my fingers sore and she kept complaining about being uncomfortable wearing the existing ones.

After searching a few children shops, I finally found the panties(on thurs, 18 Jul) which has similar cutting as those which I've ordered from the web but again, no stock for her size and she didnt like the other design(wif frills at the back)... Luckily another shop(also near her playgroup sch) also sells panties of such cut, bought a pack(S$12 for 3pcs) to try, but then, it's kinda too big even though the rubber opening at the thigh fits...
[These pics are shown here for the benefit of a friend :) ]
Front ViewBack View

She seems to like it initially but after the 2nd day of wearing these newly bought panties, she decided to wear a pair of the 'old'ones today :( haiz, actually, I also find her looking abit sloppy in them lah, cos the size is really abit too big for her...

So, for her sake, I decided to go through the 'pain & frustrations' again and went down to Spotlight on friday to buy a pack of 'rubber band' of a thinner width. Have just altered a pair today and shall see how's the sizing, if this new altered size fits, then it's back to more altering liao *dread* :( hahaha

A great Imitator

Oh I must remember to put this up kekeke. She can really imitate people/actions. I supposed most kids from this age onwards are good at this hahaha. They can really pick up from our speech/actions, thus we really have to be very careful when we're around them.

She was 'cooking' for her favourite bear and told it to eat rice, chicken(I think she chose chicken cos lately we've been asking her if she wanna try eating KFC/nuggets). Then, suddnenly she went off and came back with a 'cane'(a small pc of paper which she made her daddy rolled into a thin 'stick') and she began telling the bear "I cane ar" a few times till I finally caught the cue and responded on the bear's behalf :
Mommy(on behalf of the bear) : "no, no, I eat ok"
Renee : "hmmm, ok"

A while later, she talked to the bear again-

Renee : "u want eat french fries?"
Mommy : "renee, u cannot give bear too much fries to eat u know, wait bear bear sick how?"
Renee : (turning back to the bear) "u cannot eat too many french fries ar, wait sick sick how?
But this time, I didn't respond for the bear and she repeated, in a fiercer tone : "wait you sick sick eat medicine wek, nene jie jie angry"
Mommy : .....

Haiz, she must be imitating those times we scolded her and warned her about the caning when she didn't behave and when she spitted out the chinese medication.

Another minute later, she cradled the bear like a baby and started to sayang the bear : "orh orh, shiork shiork"
hahaha

Birthday Party Favors & Invite

Party Favor
We had another birthday celebration at her playgroup centre on Tuesday and this time round, besides the usual servings of birthday cake, sandwiches, nuggets, ice-cream and goodie bag(usually alot of chocolates, sweets, packet juice, etc etc). The birthday boy's mommy even gave each girl a bracelet and each boy a keychain toy?(I think...)
Yesterday, Renee took out this piece of chocolate(rooster) and asked me -
Renee : "mommy, what's inside this chicken?"
Mommy : "it's chocolate"
Renee : "chocolate?"
Mommy : "ya, u wanna eat it?"
Renee : "wait chicken broke how?"
hahahahaha - till now she still cant bear to 'break it'

Party Invite
And today, we were given an official invitation to the same boy's birthday party which will be held at Gymboree Tanglin Mall, next saturday. This is Renee's very first official birthday party invite, how exciting! We(the parent(s)) were reminded to bring along a pair of socks as well on that day - seems like parent's participation is anticipated. Hmmm, I must ask daddy to go along, I'm sure Renee would love to have some fun at her friend's party, with her daddy!

Fishy Print & White Socks

Fishy Print
The hook of her old anklet kept loosening up, so a few mths ago, we bought her a new one from Mintmark & Co. Her daddy chose one that's got 3 cute little 'fishes'.
Today, as usual, before we went out, she was playing by herself and suddenly she came to me : "mommy mommy, look!" And she quickly sat down and showed me her right ankle(where she wears her anklet) and exclaimed excitedly "nene ankle got fish" hahaha
Then, she even went on to explain how it got there - she held one 'fish' with her tiny fingers and said "see, this fish tap nene leg and got this fish" and smiled :) hahaha

White Socks
Whilst getting ready, I told her that we'd be going out soon and she said she wanna wear slippers. I said "no, shoes, we're going 'gai gai'" and she told me she wanna wear the pair of "white colour shoes and white colour socks". I had no idea which pair of socks she was referring to(cos I've not let her wear it before), so she went to her drawer, took out this pair(pic below) and said "I want wear this white colour socks, because it's soooooo cute" hahaha what she didn't realise is that - she's the cute one :)

Anyone has any idea what this is? ..... A pig's nose mask! lolz Aiyo, ever since we brought this pc of artwork back, grass can constantly be found on our home floors! Errrmm, what's this again? lolz. Can u see the 'wheels' marks on this piece of work? Ya?
This artwork is to teach/show them how dipping the wheels of a toy vehicle into paint n roll them over their patch of paintwork would look...She stringed this piece of necklace by herself but noticed the tiny bits/pieces? - broken pieces...by her daddy

Potty?

Last week, she suddenly took a liking to using the potty. I guessed it could be to my speaking to her abt her hving to use it whenever she sees that myself &/or her daddy are busy and are unable to bring her to the toilet on time(so she wont hv to hold her urine too often).
She took it well, which I'm glad but...since then, she began liking it so much that she didnt want to go to her alphabet cushioned potty seat(which we place on the toilet bowl) and kept wanting to use the potty! hahaha
So I have to e-explain to her that it's only when we're both too tied-up to attend to her on time, otherwise, we'll still carry her to the seat as each time she uses the potty, we'll have to pour her urine away n wash the potty(tedious lah). And she's been asking me "mommy busy?" ever since.....

Yesterday, whilst both she and her daddy were napping, I was getting ready in the wardrobe for my dad's birthday dinner(she woke up when I walked in), I heard the sound of potty being removed from our laundry box in the common toilet and placed on the floor outside. I quickly went to take a peek and saw her removing her panties and sat on the potty doing her biz... I continued watching her and when she realised that I was looking at her, she said to me: "mommy busy, papa orh orh(sleeping)" I complimented that she's a good girl.
And then she repeated : "papa orh orh, not busy" hahaha (dunno why she emphasised on this).

An after-note on her toilet training:-
(2 days after her 2nd birthday, I started toilet training her[toilet training as she's potty trained when she turned 1 but stopped using it after a while] and thank goodness it didn't take as long as I've prepared myself(I gave myself a target of 1 wk as she's turned 2 then) for her to get the idea and she began telling me she wanted to go toilet by the end of the 2nd day! phew... But the first day was really CRAZY man - e mopping and her requests of wanting to put on diapers for fear of leakages.... hahaha
The only times she leaked were when she was playing tooooo crazy and forgot or rather held on to her urinating...which so far happened twice at home, once at my sis' and once outside(during the earlier training period).
It's been months now since she's stopped wearing her training pants at night(she'll wake us up to go to the toilet but most of the times, I supposed she wld rather hold n continue her sleep...)

Keep it up, Renee(and i mean it hahaha).

Oh oh, when Renee first started her playgroup sessions at GUG in June, she had a few leakage accidents at night(woke up 'too late' and urinated by the time she reached the edge of the bed). My sis attributted that to the stress of being new at 'school'...

The million dollar question? hehehe

She associates the question 'how much' to figures... and so when I first asked her:-
mommy : "renee, do u love mommy?"
renee : "yes"
mommy : "how much?"
renee : "errm, two dollars"
mommy : "har, only two dollars? but mommy loves u 1 million dollars ar"
renee : (giggling) "okok, 1 million dollars"

few days later ---
mommy : "do u love mommy?"
renee : "yes"
mommy : "how much?"
renee : "2 dollars"
mommy : "har?" (making sad face)
renee : "okok, 3 dollars"
mommy : "......"(still sad face)
renee : "errrh, 1 million dollars"
mommy : "but mommy loves u 10 million dollars ar"
renee : "....."
mommy : "so, do u love mommy?"
renee : "yes"
mommy : "how much?"
renee : "1, errmmmm, 10 million dollars"

hahahhahahahhahhaha

today ---
She had wanted to hug me after I've cleaned her up but I told her later, after I've showered as I'm all sticky...
So, when I came out of the shower, she quickly ran to me with open arms and said :
renee : "mommy mommy, I want hug u"
mommy : "ok ok, come"
*hugs*
mommy : "thank you darling, mommy loves you soooo much"
renee : "how much?"
mommy : "oh, 10 million dollars"
renee : "how abt papa?"(with the cheeky side-glance look)
And before I could answer -
she said "mommy say, 2 dollars"(with a pointing finger)
mommy : "2 dollars"
renee : "ok ok" (nodding in satisfaction)

hahahahaha

Too small?

Usually when we came home from an outing, she'll remove her pants/skirts/socks,etc herself and put them in her laundry bin at the kitchen corner near the washer.
Today, after she had removed her skirts and socks, I went to hug/carry her, but few seconds later, she started to fidget and wanna be let down...
mommy : "why, let mommy carry u lah"
renee : "nene want to put in basket ar"
mommy : "oh, but mommy want to wear your skirt ar, can mommy wear your skirt?"
renee : "but it's too small, mommy cannot wear, wait spoil how?"
.................

'Adult Speech'?

Animals in cage... Using 'playdoh' like clay, they were asked to make their very first magnet. Renee's in e shape of a butterfly

Fussy Eater

Sweet Corn is for sure her biggest LOVE! - in fact she already loves it even when she was still in my womb(I used to hv great cravings for it).
Earlier, after she had her lunch, I heat up some chicken chowder with corn+potato soup and when she saw the corn she was very happy and said "oh, my favorite sweet corn!". But when I wanted to feed her some, she went "oh, I don't want mommy sweet corn, sorry sorry"(flipping up one palm), "I only like nene sweet corn".... cos she saw that the soup isn't what I usually cook for her. It's creamy and she didn't want to have it.
Geez, she is sure one fussy eater!
(Even when I was pregnant with her, the cravings for the corn were also very 'specific' - must be whole steamed corn, not the cupped type)

Final touches...

Her daddy has finally got the mozzie net stand altered so that it can be fixed onto her new bed. Ta da! Doesn't it look princessey? :D

Her new cozy bed corner!

From sleeping in a cot to a playpen, to mattress on the floor, then to this - was how her 'bed' used to be, but with a different direction - the 'opening' facing the drawer chest and we later took out the door & its frame, leaving the sides, so as to hold the mozzie net stand(been using it since the 1st report of high dengue cases...)

Good imagination!

Oh, almost forgot about this! The next day after her very 1st playgroup session, she was playing by herself at home and suddenly came to tell me that this particular piece of dough(after cutting out the shapes she wanted with the moulds) is a 'boat'! Good imagination huh? :P

Artwork display

Her favourite - Jellyfish!
Good thing we resumed her playgroup sessions just on time for the "J" zoophonics
I kinda like tis artwork cos the rooster's 'leg' is in e form of a wheel and u can turn it to find the correct match

A chef's hat
One elephant, began to dance, up on a _ _ _ one day, he found it such enormous fun, so he called for another elephant to dance...(she was one of e elephants in the dance when they were hving fun at the music room)A perfectionist? haha I didn't even realise til I see this pic! She was actually trying to cover up the 'extra star' that I've created on her flag creation when I passed(and dropped...) her the star paper for sticking(luckily I've taken this pic whilst she was working on her artpiece, cos we have to leave it to dry at the school and even after I've told the teachers that we'll be resuming her sessions after my lasik surgery, her artwork pieces were all thrown away when we went back...)
